Our Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business programme is designed for those aiming to deeply explore business theory and practice through rigorous research. It helps students develop advanced skills to tackle global business challenges, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. Our PhD in Business has received the Provisional Accreditation (PA) from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) under code MQA/PA 17993.

Research topics are encouraged to align with UTHM’s niche areas, which include Sustainable Technology, TVET, Transportation, and Digitalization, while addressing relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Furthermore, proposed research is encouraged to incorporate emerging industry trends such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0), Blockchain, and Sustainability, in order to drive innovation and create meaningful impact in the business sector.
Admission Requirement
Local Applicant
We welcome local applicants to join our Doctor of Philosophy in Business (PhD in Business) in University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia.
Entry Requirements
- A Master’s Degree in a relevant field or a field recognized by the Senate of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia; OR
- Other qualifications equivalent to a Master’s Degree recognized by the Senate, subject to a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience and thorough internal evaluation; OR
- Without relevant qualifications in the field or relevant work experience, must meet the prerequisites set by UTHM by passing the following courses:
- Fundamentals of Accounting and Finance
- Business Management
- Principles of Economics
- This programme also accepts students through APEL.A T-8 for those who do not have a master’s degree, in accordance with the criteria set by the MQA.
English Requirements
Applicants must fulfill the minimum English proficiency aligned to CEFR Mid B2 as follows:

International applicants who have graduated from universities in designated English speaking countries may also be exempt from the requirement.

Application Method
