ICSC2025 Strengthens the Role of JBS and Johor as a Hub of Knowledge, Research, and Innovation

Management & Leadership Case Study Centre (PKKPK), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), with the official collaboration of Johor Business School (JBS), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), proudly hosted the International Case Study Congress 2025 (ICSC2025), bringing together over 200 academics, industry leaders, and policymakers from across Malaysia and abroad. This is an annual congress, and this year’s event was held over three days, from 15 to 17 September 2025, at Berjaya Waterfront Hotel, Johor Bahru.
The congress was officiated by Prof. Dr. Ram Al Jaffri Saad, UUM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation). The keynote address, “Johor Development: Advantages and Challenges”, was delivered by The Honourable Dato’ Dr. Badrul Hisham Kassim, CEO of Johor Civil Service Academy (APTNJ) and JBS Adjunct Professor, who emphasized the importance of balancing economic growth with affordable housing, infrastructure, and community well-being. Vicky Lester, CEO of The Case Centre UK, also served as a keynote speaker alongside Dato’ Dr. Badrul Hisham.
In his remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shafie Mohamed Zabri, Dean of JBS, highlighted JBS’s unique role as a young faculty of UTHM committed to real-world problem-solving through case studies, reaffirming its mission to drive positive impact for society, industry, and policy development.
In addition to keynote speeches and case study presentations, the congress featured a special Case Study Workshop by experts from Nikkei Business Lab Asia Ltd., along with prestigious awards such as the Best Teaching Case Award and the Outstanding Contribution to the Case Method Award.
Through this event, JBS not only strengthens UTHM’s academic and research ecosystem but also contributes to knowledge, policy, and innovation with lasting impact for Johor and Malaysia.
