MBA@UTHM 10th Anniversary | Celebrating a Decade of Excellence

BATU PAHAT – Since its first intake in 2016, the MBA@UTHM programme has successfully produced nearly 200 alumni from Batches 1 to 18, including 33 international students.

Originally established under the Faculty of Technology Management and Business (FPTP), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), the programme has continued to grow following the establishment of Johor Business School (JBS) as a faculty in 2023.

To broaden access to higher education for working professionals, MBA@UTHM began offering its programme through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode in October 2025.

During the same period, JBS also introduced the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) and PhD in Business programmes, further strengthening its postgraduate education ecosystem and providing advanced study pathways for graduates and professionals in business and management.

In conjunction with this milestone, JBS organised the MBA@UTHM 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner at Orchid Event Space, Batu Pahat, on 7 June, bringing together university management, alumni, industry partners, and academics associated with the programme.

Dean of JBS, Associate Professor Dr. Shafie Mohamed Zabri, said the celebration was more than just a gala dinner; it served as a platform to appreciate the journey and achievements that have shaped the MBA@UTHM community.

“The true success of a programme is not measured solely by the number of graduates it produces, but by the impact its alumni create.

We are proud to see MBA@UTHM alumni excelling and making meaningful contributions across the public sector, private industry, education, entrepreneurship, and various professional fields,” he said.

The event was officiated by Professor Dr. Afandi Ahmad, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), UTHM, who attended as the official representative of the Vice-Chancellor.

In his speech, he described MBA@UTHM as a talent development platform that has successfully nurtured strategic thinking, leadership, and professionalism among its graduates.

“MBA@UTHM has demonstrated that a programme built on dedication, commitment, and perseverance can evolve into a meaningful platform for talent development and produce graduates who excel in diverse fields,” he said.

As part of the 10th anniversary celebration, ten special awards were presented to outstanding alumni, namely the Distinguished Alumni Award, Outstanding Entrepreneur Award, Emerging Leader Award, Social Impact & Community Award, Corporate Excellence Award, Innovation & Digital Transformation Award, Academic & Research Excellence Award, Global Achievement Award, MBA Alumni Loyalty & Contribution Award, and Inspirational Alumni Award.

In addition, the MBA Legacy Recognition Award was presented to Associate Professor Dr. Ahmad Kaseri Ramin and Associate Professor Dr. Maimunah Ali in recognition of their significant contributions to the early development of the programme.

The evening also featured a retirement appreciation ceremony for Professor Dr. Wan Fauziah Wan Yusof in recognition of her dedicated service to JBS and the MBA@UTHM programme. Another highlight was the launch of the official Mafla Johor Business School souvenir, sponsored by Batch 14 alumnus Muhammad Hairul Zainal, founder of Ziegers Printing.

Also present at the event were University Board Member Professor Ir. Dr. Mohd. Amri Lajis; the official representative of the Johor State Secretary, Yang Mulia Ungku Mohd Tahir Ungku Mohd Zakaria; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Professor Ts. Dr. Rabiah Ahmad, FASc; as well as deans, heads of responsibility centres, MBA@UTHM alumni, industry partners, and JBS academic staff.

The organisation of such an event not only celebrates past achievements but also strengthens the relationship between the university, its alumni, and industry partners. It further reflects JBS’s commitment to producing professional, competitive, and high-quality graduates who contribute meaningfully to organisational, societal, and national development.
